overseas education consultants in Pune

International students, for one, are quick to realise the growing profile of the beautiful haven called New Zealand and how it can help shape their world; the ever increasing overseas student population being a testimony to that. For those who are still undecided whether to study in New Zealand or not, we have put together a few things you ought to know before studying in New Zealand, which would help them make an informed decision.

Watch this video to get overseas student testimonies about life in New Zealand :

You can Study in New Zealand any time

No matter when you decide to study in New Zealand, it's the perfect time. You can choose from a range of programs, ranging from summer, semester, and full-year exchange, to short term multi-country travel and study experiences. You can take classes alongside local students and learn about the history, indigenous language, ecology, and local social and political issues of the country. Students can live with a host family as well, and college students can live in dorms with other students from New Zealand. At the end of your semester, you want to stick around for a bit, you can also apply for a working holiday visa in either New Zealand or Australia and spend up to a year working.

Ease of visa acquisition and residency

The process to acquire a visa is incredibly simple, and unlike many other countries, you will not be rejected right away. You get to talk to people and tell them your side of the story if there is something that may prevent you from getting a visa to come into the country. If you can explain why you’ve decided to go down there and your international studies program helps you to create a Statement of Purpose (a statement you give to the visa officer to tell them why you are coming to New Zealand to study), you will usually get a visa. The country is welcome to immigration, more so than almost any other country in the world. The last benefit is that, after you graduate, as mentioned above, you can work in the country for up to a year. If your employment is related to the degree that you received, you can actually apply to get permanent residency, which you will most likely get within 6 months of your application.

You can enjoy New Zealand without losing sleep over finances

Currently, 1 USD is equivalent to 1.38 NZD, but there are several ways to keep money in your wallet. Typically, a meal could cost you less than $15, and many program options include meals with host families. Usually, a day hike at a national park is free, as well as camping.Cities tend to be expensive, no matter what country you're in, but Auckland and Wellington have tons of free cultural events, festivals, and oftentimes discounted student entrance fees to museums.

Health Insurance

If you are studying in New Zealand, health insurance is a must as it shields you from paying high medical costs in the country. Also one major difference between insurance plans in New Zealand and other countries is that all eight universities in New Zealand have together come up with one common insurance plan, Studentsafe-University. The objective is to reduce the burden on the student, who no longer needs to spend hours comparing government- or university-backed plans.

Now that you've gotten the gist of what you need to know about studying abroad in New Zealand, apply for a scholarship, and start packing for your immersive Kiwi experience!

PTE and Its Growing Popularity

PTE Academic test and the IELTS are both English tests for non-native speakers of English  and students aiming to study or work in English speaking countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, etc. Both these tests demand a thorough understanding of English Grammar, and Comprehension. The tests are evaluated to perfection and results are delivered within a short duration to help obtain Visas or University seats easily and fast. PTE Academic test is Approved by the Australian & New Zealand Government for Study and permanent resident visa application. Accepted by thousands of institutions in the UK, Australia, USA, Canada, New Zealand, and Ireland, including Harvard, Yale, and INSEAD.

Particularly, for Australia Visa, the PTE Academic Test is seen to be more popular than IELTS. Below are five reasons why:

Watch this video for an unbiased view of both IELTS/PTE :

1. PTE does not require pre-booking many months prior:

IELTS tests are conducted on specific days as determined by the IELTS council. To enrol, you should regularly look out for dates and pre-book months in advance. On the other hand, PTE can be registered for before 24 hours and does not need advanced pre-booking. Test dates for PTE Academic are available at regular intervals throughout the year, thus making it more preferred over IELTS.

2. PTE Academic exam is fully-automated while IELTS entails Manual Evaluation:

PTE Academic is more convenient since registration, the actual test, and evaluation is all automated and does not involve manual intervention. Hence, students who are not very confident of facing human evaluators can complete the test quickly and get the results within a week. Since all the evaluation is done on computers, there is close to 0 chance of discrepancies or unfair assessment from occurring. The actual test is divided into successive, quick sessions that students will have very little trouble attempting.

3. PTE Results will be made available to test-takers in just 5 days:

Instead of waiting for days or months on end feeling anxious and uncertain about your Visa application or University seat. Choose the PTE Academic instead of IELTS to get test results in less than a few days so that you’re free to think about your other commitments. Indeed, a test result cannot get any faster than this. PTE’s fast result makes it a more preferable and popular choice among foreign English test takers. One can send PTE result online to assessing authority for visa application.

4. PTE is to be taken online while IELTS requires writing and speaking:

For applicants from different countries who have little experience conversing and interacting in English, writing using pen and paper and facing human evaluators becomes an additional burden. For people who struggle with oratory confidence, speaking into a microphone provides welcome relief, and that is why PTE is more preferred compared to IELTS. You can also take mock online tests for PTE Academic and evaluate yourself beforehand to develop more confidence.

5. PTE Academic test is New and Advanced:

PTE Academic relies on American English. It is being widely accepted and preferred than IELTS and TOEFL. PTE Results are slowly accepted and preferred all over the world for MBA Programmes and Employment Visas. Since PTE relies on the newest technology. It may permanently replace other English Tests like TOEFL and IELTS in the years to come.

IELTS vs TOEFL

ielts training in delhi

The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System) are two of the most commonly accepted tests to verify your English proficiency. The decision to take either of the two tests will ultimately depend on many different factors.

Find below some noticeable difference between the two that may ease you in making your choice.
Watch this video to know more about the difference in the two exams.

https://youtu.be/8Xu4W0NRSgo

Duration of exam :

IELTS is for around 2 hours and 45 minutes while TOEFL take almost 4 hours.

Types of questions : Multiple-Choice vs. Short Answer questions

A major difference between the exams is that, for the Reading and Listening sections, you will have to write your answers from what you just heard or read for many of the questions on the IELTS, while all the answer choices will be given to you on the TOEFL. Not all questions on these TOEFL sections are multiple-choice, but majority of them are, and for the ones that aren’t, you still do not need to create your own answers.

Texts Used in the Reading Section :

The Reading sections for both the TOEFL and IELTS have many different  passages, each followed by series of questions. However, the two tests use varied kind of passages. The IELTS uses academic texts as well as passages from newspapers and magazines. The TOEFL only uses academic texts, which means its reading passages are often denser with more challenging vocabulary and concepts to understand. If you’re not confident with your English reading skills, you may find the IELTS Reading section to be easier.

Computer-Based Speaking vs. Oral Interview :

On the TOEFL, the Speaking section, like all other sections of the test, is done with the help of a computer. You will hear recorded questions and respond into a microphone to give your answer. With the IELTS, you actually will be having a conversation with a real person.

TOEFL vs IELTS: Which is harder?

This is probably the question you are most concerned with, but it is quite difficult to compare the TOEFL and the IELTS directly. A better way to find the answer to this question is to ask yourself a few questions. Answer the following questions with a simple “yes” or “no".

  • I am comfortable having a detailed interview in-person. YES/NO
  • I have legible English handwriting. YES/NO
  • I can understand a variety of dialects of English. YES/NO
  • I prefer tests with many question types, including multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, matching, true/false, and flowcharts. YES/NO
  • I feel most comfortable discussing non-academic topics in English. YES/NO
  • The authentic English sources that I read/listen to/watch are usually made to entertain. YES/NO

If you answered YES to most of these questions, then you might find the IELTS to be more up your alley.

Guide To TOEFL And IELTS Preparation

The TOEFL  is a standardized test of English proficiency for non-native candidates who wish to enroll in English speaking universities. It is one out of the two major English language tests valid the world over, the other being IELTS (International English language Testing System).  The TOEFL iBT test has been introduced in phases, with the United StatesCanadaFranceGermany, and Italy in 2005 and the rest of the world in 2006, with test centers added regularly.

Format of the Exam :

Both the TOEFL as well as the IELTS evaluates student’s understanding in 4 main verticals, namely Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, though there are many differences in the format of both. The entire test lasts for approximately 4 hours as opposed to 3 hours for IELTS. Learn more about the test format here : https://youtu.be/aTX1LiD75Ag

Tips and Tricks to ace the TOEFL
Preparation is of key importance:

Test preparation could take anywhere between 1-3 months, depending on the student’s basic English level, ability as well as the time dedicate during these months. However, it’s never a good idea to assume that just because someone is proficient in English, he/ she may get a top score. It is really crucial to understand the test format and proper utilization of time to perform and score well at the exam.

Study Academic English :

Ensure that you have studied enough for language used in education institutions as this is the kind you would commonly encounter at the exam. Reading academic articles, listening to lectures on varied subjects and learning academic vocabulary will certainly be beneficial. Familiar yourself with the presentation and language used in academic material. You could watch modern television and movies to get a better idea of this kind of Lexical resources.

Mock tests surely help :

While an average student’s attention span is around 2 hours, the TOEFL lasts for 4 hours. To ensure that your attention doesn’t reduce after 2 hours, practice  sitting through as many Mock exams of complete 4hours. You could start with 2 hour tests of just 2 modules, and then keep extending this time to finally a complete 4 hour test.

Study plans are crucial :

Each student has different study needs depending on what they find difficult. It may be listening and comprehending native speakers, scanning and skimming for specific answers in Reading, Writing an independent essay or an integrated summary on a given topic or even replying to specific questions in the Speaking test. Make sure you dedicate more time towards the module you find challenging to ensure sufficient practice to ace that area.

Why IELTS is better than TOEFL

Students often debate on whether to go in for IELTS or TOEFL when they are applying for admission to a foreign nation for work or studies. Both IELTS and TOEFL are standardized English language tests that are conducted by nations where English is the first language. Every year students from across the world prepare diligently for scoring high in these two tests. However, there is much confusion and debate among TOEFL and IELTS as tests. Many do not even know that IELTS is better than TOEFL as it opens the door to unlimited opportunities-let us see how:

1.     IELTS is recognised in UK- TOEFL is no longer recognised by the home government in the UK as a secure English language testing system. It is prudent to opt for IELTS or Pearson’s test of English if you have targeted UK as your study or work destination

2.       IELTS is shorter- Yes, both these English language tests are divided into four sections however the IELTS Examination is shorter. TOEFL takes 4 hours and IELTS just takes 2 hours
3.       IELTS is more practical- Look at the TOEFL question pattern- its reading section is a multiple choice one. IELTS, on the other hand, is more feasible. There are 15 question types that include true/false, short answers, summary and multiple- choice. This means when you appear and pass the IELTS Examination you get better realistic practical experience
4.       IELTS scores better at listening- The listening section of the TOEFL Examination lasts for about 40 to 60 minutes. The situations revolve around university life primarily. However, if you look at TOEFL, you will find that the situations centre around an application for something, an informational lecture, conversation between two people in an academic context and an educational lecture
5.       IELTS better at speaking- The speaking section of the TOEFL Examination lasts for 20 minutes and you converse with a computer. The conversation is recorded and later sent to the examiner for evaluation. The speaking section of the IELTS Examination lasts for 12 to 15 minutes but you are in a real conversation with a deputed examiner
6 .      IELTS makes you a better writer- TOEFL has a writing section that lasts for 50 minutes divided into 2 questions.  They need to by typed into a computer. The IELTS Examination has two assignments and they last for 1 hour. The examinations are real as you do not have a computer to answer questions. They need to be handwritten!

Therefore, the final verdict from the above is evident- the IELTS Examination is a more varied test that renders you with practical skills that will help you to study or work in an English speaking nation. It is important for you to enrol in the bestIELTS coaching in your nation for getting the best results!
